Ophir Maharlika Spearheads Major Coconut Reforestation Effort in Ancestral Lands for International Mother Earth Day

In celebration of International Mother Earth Day on April 22, Ophir Maharlika, visited the Philippine Coconut Authority to initiate a partnership in the Massive Coconut Planting Program, which aims to plant 100 million coconut trees by 2028. The PCA recognizes the vital role of Indigenous Peoples as stewards of the forest, embarks on a reforestation initiative to replant coconuts in denuded ancestral lands across Mindanao, known for its abundant coconut plantations. This effort marks a significant start towards environmental conservation and sustainable land use practices.

Indigenous communities in Mindanao, deeply rooted in the land and its resources, will benefit from this initiative as it not only promotes reforestation but also sustains livelihoods tied to coconut farming. Ophir Maharlika's commitment to environmental stewardship extends beyond symbolic gestures, as the organization collaborates with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) to coordinate and execute this massive replanting effort.

As we commemorate International Mother Earth Day, let us honor the Earth's abundance and diversity by taking tangible action to protect and preserve it for future generations. Through initiatives like the coconut reforestation project, Ophir Maharlika reaffirms its dedication to environmental sustainability and Indigenous empowerment, ensuring a greener, healthier planet for all.
